Huntsville Alabama BRAC's military jobs will be more than expected.

More than 4,700 military jobs coming to Huntsville by 2012 as a part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission will probably grow to a much larger number.

Local defense contractor executives and experts base their expectation of larger job numbers on previous realignments and on specific, unique Huntsville faculties.  When NASA in Huntsville established the Marshall Space Flight Center in 1960 there was a large ancillary growth of related industry and positions.  In 1997 the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command was established in Huntsville with similar economics growth. Local business and defense industry leaders expect even greater growth in Huntsville’s business community as BRAC positions start to be filled in earnest in the spring and summer of 2009.

One of the commands moving to Huntsville as a part of BRAC is the U.S. Army Security and Assistance Command. The command will attract and support allied nations who will purchase military technology, training, maintenance and support of advanced weapons systems.  Huntsville already has contingents of military personnel from the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Australia.
