This week's feature is The Hubbard family of Hubbard Family Farm.
Huntsville knows it’s finally spring when the Hubbard family transforms a parking lot at the corner of South Memorial Parkway and Mock Drive in Huntsville from hard black pavement to lush greens and bright colors. For the past twelve years Allen Hubbard and his family have grown flowers and plants from seed at their Boaz farm for their growing crowd of loyal Huntsville customers. Through word of mouth the Hubbards have earned a loyal following.
The family business started with Allen’s grandmother growing plants on her windowsill. His grandfather and father started selling plants and produce at Scottsboro’s trade day in the 1930’s. When Allen’s uncle came home from serving in the war, he built a greenhouse beside his grandmothers house and the business started growing. At 82 years old Allen’s uncle still works the family farm and helps out at the parking lot every Saturday.
From April through July and again from September through early December stop by to find the best buys on plants and flowers in Huntsville while supporting a local farmer. You can call Allen at 256-529-9494 to see when new plants will be arriving.
