Missile launch by North Korea may be good news for Huntsville and shift defense budget to focus on local missile defense.

Defense experts, Members of Congress, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates are lobbying for continued support of the Huntsville based Missile Defense Command and missile defense research programs.  According to most experts North Korea used the launch to help develop offensive missiles that could threaten Japan, portions of the United States and U.S.  Allies.  Missile defense programs including Huntsville-based missile interceptor and the Kinetic Energy Interceptor booster programs were under review for possible budget cuts.
