In an article by Kenneth Kesner Huntsville Times on 20 August 2009 a New missile defense system is to be headquartered in Huntsville

The Missile Defense Agency is looking at modifying and integrating missile systems already developed to help defend against the threat from short and intermediate-range missiles.

There is $50 million in the proposed 2010 defense budget for the program and the agency's office for developing the land-based SM-3 Missile System will be in Huntsville.

With The Missile Defense Agency locating the land-based SM-3 office in Huntsville, local defense contractor Raytheon is expecting to expand its work force in Huntsville service the new program.
