No bother at all, it's part of my responsibility to help with follow-up issues.  Your comment "This year when it snowed, I could see that on the neighbors' roofs the snow had melted around the passive vents on the roofs but not around mine. " was a great clue. Since the snow didn't melt around your vents, there is probably not air flowing out of them. The most likely cause is that the soffit (eave) vents are blocked by the blown in attic insulation. It's not uncommon for the insulation installer to blow insulation over the vents blocking the airflow. Once the insulation is in place it's impossible for an inspector to see.

On a sunny day when the attic is hot get a ladder and see if there is air being pulled into the attic through the soffit vents. There should be a discernable air flow. If after checking the vents you find there is no air flow, make certain the roof vents aren't blocked somehow. This is very unlikely.

If the soffit vents are blocked the simplest fix is to removed the vinyl eave pieces, Let the insulation fall out and make sure there is a clear path for the air to flow from the eaves into the attic. The eave panels are usually just held in by channels that the edges of the panels lock into. You may want to lay out a tarp to catch the insulation when it falls and recycle it back into the attic.

As I recall when you purchased the house it was warm weather but yet really hot. Whenever we were in the house it was cool and the inspector indicated the output on the HVAC was within guidelines. I'm wondering if seller had this problem before and turned down the thermostat prior to our viewings and inspections.
