You will hear the train and it's horn but it far enough away that it shouldn't be too loud. There are some apartments and condos on the other side of the railroad tracks but they shouldn't effect the property.

I like this neighborhood. We have done several sales here and homes seem to do well. There are some homes on the outside of the neighborhood on Portal that are beside the rail road that aren't desirable. Portal is also a high traffic street. We will need to be sure to test for elevated radon levels. I have done two sales in the neighborhood where we tested elevated levels. It costs about $2,000 to install a radon mitigation system and the cost would be on the seller.
 
115 SOUTHRIDGE DRIVE  is priced at $209,900 / $92 psf. It has been on the market since 03/18/11 with one price reduction.  The current owner paid $210,000 for the house 02/28/2007.

There haven't been and sales in the neighborhood since 07/01/10. If this house does become a strong candidate, we can search for comparable sales outside the neighborhood.

613 Sam Thomas is under contract and on a very busy road. My counsel would have been to pas on this real estate in huntsville even if it were still available.
 
224 Blackwater Trail has been on market at $225,000 / $86 psf since 06/07/11. There have been no price reductions. The link below is to the listing where the current owner bought the house for $180,400 on 03/31/2003.

We already addressed 202 Cloud Leap. The listing agent of this short sale said they had already presented two offers tot he lender and were waiting on a response. My impression is that the seller is limiting acess to the house.
 
202 Thunderbird is adjacent to a neighborhood that was hard hit by the April tornados. The area was hit by a tornado in 1999 as well. There is a rumor that prior to the neighborhood's construction that the farmer who owned the land lost a barn to a tornado. While there is no logical reason that a specific neighborhood would be more prone to tornados, you need to be aware that there are a few owners in the neighborhood who are moving our of fear.
 
The house is listed at $184,000 / $81 psf. It has been on the market since 02/05/11 and has had one price reduction. The only other archived MLS listing on the property was a sale to another buyer, not the current owner. We would have to check courthouse records to see what the current owner paid for the house.

I'm a little curious why the seller put the house on the market less than a year from when he bought it and why it has been on market for so long. The house is a " WESTERN RED CEDAR CONTEMPORARY LOG HOME  " . Log homes are romantic but sometimes drafty and difficult to live in.
 
Since this is a log house and not in a neighborhood, it will be very hard to find meaningful comparable sales. If the house becomes a serious contender, we will see what comparable homes we can find.

I'm concerned that the lot is sloped. Unless a site and foundation are properly designed, build and water runoff maintained there is a risk of foundation problems.

My recommendation on this house is to be vary cautious. While we need to consider your current needs, at some point you will resell and there is a limited market for log homes.
 
 
While 108 RICK TURNER is in my favorite area of Huntsville / Madison County it is a little further out than I usually direct clients. It is located in northeast northeast Madison County near where I live.

Since you are considering properties in northeast Madison County, the link below is to some candidate homes. I filtered for larger lots and detached garages. Since fences are relatively inexpensive to install I didn't filter for fences. Click on the address for a map of the location and toggle to hybrid for an image of the house. Take a close look at the Grasslands house. It is in a nice neighborhood. It did filter out on house that is on a busy road.
