Real estate properties going fast in Madison County

Residents in the valley are starting to notice more real estate signs posted since the April 27th tornado outbreak.

That's because there is a demand in housing for homeowners displaced by the storms.

For homeowners affected by last month's storms some have already started to build back. They need a place to stay while their house is being built. But what about others who have damaged or destroyed property. What should they do?

Philip Winburn with Rosenblum Realty in Huntsville has helped several families displaced by the storms.

"We've got about 250 families that have been displaced that are looking for places to live. We have two today where the tenants are moving out and two new tenants, storm victims are moving in right behind the old tenants," said Philip Winburn.

Agents work with homeowners insurance companies to try and set them up in a temporary home.

You can also do your homework on line by going through listings of properties available. You may find, if you live where the tornado touched down, that it's difficult to find real estate available to rent or own.

"Houses in the Harvest area where it was hardest hit those have been in demand. People want to live close to their rebuild. A number of rental homes were damaged in that area. We lost one on Rail Road Bed Road and one on Yarbrough Road," said Winburn.

Winburn said a number of properties that were for sale before the tornado have now been turned into rentals.

He said exceptions are being made for victims of April's tornadoes to help speed the housing process along.
