Thanks for the reply!! I haven't noticed any freezing and the I had service work done on the unit when I started noticing a problem early after we purchased (so the freon is fine). I had several hvac guys out, including the home warranty one. The others couldn't find a problem. The home warranty one wanted to put in a new compressor but there was a problem with the installers (they stated HWA wasn't paying them). HWA wanted to restart the process with someone else. I was tired of the run around and gave up with them (I did get a "cash out").

I am leaning toward ventilation because (other than just wishful thinking because heat pumps are pricey) two days ago with the temperature outside increased the temp. in the house reached 77. The heat pump was off all day. During the summer it would only be like 92 outside and the heat pump couldn't get the house below 80. It was extremely uncomfortable. This year when it snowed, I could see that on the neighbors' roofs the snow had melted around the passive vents on the roofs but not around mine.

I'm sorry I bothered you with this. I was just wondering if you had heard of others having this problem. When I saw the neighbors add a ridge vent on their existing roof, I thought that maybe this was a common problem. This summer we will be dealing with the ventilation. If this doesn't fix it in the fall we will deal with the heat pump. Thanks again for the response and helpful information.
